Who is entitled to Complimentary Fare Upgrades and how many upgrades are they entitled to each year?

Platinum Plus & Platinum members are entitled to four complimentary Business Class upgrades per membership year, when flying on eligble fares on eligible Domestic and International Short-Haul flights marketed and operated by Virgin Australia (excluding Christmas Island and Cocos (Keeling) Islands). Platinum Plus & Platinum members are entitled to use thier complimentary upgrades for guests travelling with them on the same flight, when booked in an eligble fare. 

  • Platinum Plus eligble fare types: Economy Choice or Flex. 
  • Platinum eligible fare types: Economy Flex

How to request an upgrade: 

  • Call the Priority Phone Service team up to two hours prior to your schedule departure time.
  • Request an upgrade at any Virgin Australia Lounge, or if departing from an airport without a lounge at the Priority Check-in desk up to 40 minutes prior to your scheduled departure time.

Terms & Conditions

Platinum Plus members will have an allocation of 4 Complimentary Business Class Upgrades per Benefit Period. Available when flying in Economy Flex and Choice fares on eligible Virgin Australia marketed and operated Domestic, Trans-Tasman and International Short Haul flights. Each upgrade may only be used on a single flight sector. Subject to seat availability and operational requirements. Requests must be made at check-in at least 40 mins before the scheduled departure time or by calling the Priority Phone Service team at least 2 hours before the scheduled departure time. Additional terms and conditions apply - see clause 9.2 of the Velocity membership Terms and Conditions. 

From 1 October 2025, Platinum Plus members have access to the Priority Phone Service team on 13 18 75 in Australia, 0800 230 875 in New Zealand or +61 2 8667 5924 internationally which will be available 7 days per week, Monday to Friday from 6am-7pm AEST, and Saturday, Sunday and Public Holidays from 7am6pm AEST. Please note that the Priority Phone Service team may be supported by other service teams in relation to some enquiries (some of these teams may be based overseas).
