General FAQs regarding the overall program changes
A: We are implementing the following changes to the Velocity Frequent Flyer Program over the next 12 months:
Throughout 2025, we will also make further changes to the Velocity membership Terms and Conditions to reflect these program changes as they come into effect.
A: We’re continuing to evolve the Velocity Frequent Flyer program by listening to our members on what they want and value most. Our members told us^ that they want to be better recognised for flying regularly with Virgin Australia and to be able to fly domestically for even fewer Velocity Points. The changes will balance the program towards our members needs, whilst ensuring Velocity continues to provide our members with great value in the Australian market.

Status
A: From 1 October 2025, we are saying goodbye to Eligible Sectors and updating the way members upgrade and maintain Status. Members will only earn Status with Status Credits.
The total Status Credits balance required to upgrade or maintain Silver, Gold and Platinum membership will remain the same as today.
However, there will be a minimum number of Status Credits that must be earned through flying on eligible Virgin Australia marketed and or operated flights flown by you. The remaining Status Credits could be earned through Family Pooling (as a beneficiary only) or from our eligible Velocity Partners e.g., eligible Partner Airline marketed and operated flights, Flybuys, or eligible Velocity Points earning credit cards.

A: In the first half of 2025 we will be providing you with more information on how you can track your progress towards Status for your first Review Date after the new Status maintain and attain assessment rules come into effect on 1 October 2025.
You can still track your progress towards Status under the current assessment rules in My Velocity online or via the Velocity Frequent Flyer App. To download the app click here.
A: No. Status Credits earned via Family Pooling will not count towards the minimum Status Credit requirement to be earned on eligible Virgin Australia marketed and or operated flights flown by you. However, they are a great way to help you on your way to your total Status Credit requirement.
A: No, when you choose to be a contributor for a Family Pool, the Status Credits that are transferred from your account to a beneficiary do not count towards your Status balance. This is because, once a Family Pool is setup, any Status Credits or Points you earn while you’re a contributor are automatically transferred to the beneficiary for as long as the Family Pool is active and you are a contributor. Therefore, the Status Credits you pool to a beneficiary become Status Credits earned by the beneficiary and form part of the beneficiary’s Status Credit balance and not part of your Status Credit balance.
In the first half of 2025 we will be providing you with more information on how you can track your progress towards Status for your first Review Date after the new Status maintain and attain assessment rules come into effect on 1 October 2025.
In the meantime, you can still track your progress towards Status under the current assessment rules in My Velocity online or via the Velocity Frequent Flyer App.
A: To maintain or upgrade your Status level, your balance must be equal to the total number of Status Credits required to maintain or upgrade. Additionally, there will be a requirement to earn a minimum number of Status Credits on eligible Virgin Australia marketed and or operated flights flown by you.
Status Credits earned through Family Pooling (as a beneficiary only), Partner Airline marketed and operated flights, Flybuys, eligible Velocity Points earning credit cards or any other eligible partner can contribute up to 50% of your total Status Credits balance requirement for Silver, Gold, Platinum and 25% of your total Status Credits balance requirement for Platinum Plus and Forever Gold.
A: Prior to 1 October 2025, your Status will continue to be assessed as per the current assessment rules in the Velocity terms and conditions where you are required to earn Status Credits and Eligible Sectors to maintain or upgrade Status. If you have not met the Status maintain assessment requirements, then you will downgrade when you reach your Review Date.
A: For your first Review Date on or after 1 October 2025, your Status will be assessed under the new Status assessment rules where you earn Status with your Status Credits balance only and there is a minimum number of Status Credits required to be earned on eligible Virgin Australia marketed and or operated flights flown by you. If you have not met the new Status maintain requirements, then you will downgrade when you reach your Review Date.
Status Credits transferred to a beneficiary through Family Pooling are not earned by the contributor and therefore will not form part of the contributor's Status Credits balance.
A: For eligible domestic and short haul international Virgin Australia marketed and operated flights booked from 2 April 2025, members will earn 1 Status Credit per $12 spent on Choice, Flex, Group and Business fares, or 1 Status Credit per $24 on Lite fares. Status Credits earned will be based on the all inclusive fare (i.e., the total fare including taxes, fees and charges, but excluding spend on seat selection and other extras) and rounded to the nearest Status Credit.
A: If you have booked a trip on a Virgin Australia marketed and operated flight prior to 2 April 2025, even if your travel date for that flight is after 2 April 2025, you will earn Status Credits based on the number of miles you fly and the fare type you have booked. No, assessment for the eligibility to maintain Status occurs after your Review Date for the Status Credits you have earned during your Benefit Period. Assessment for maintaining Status operates a little differently to assessment for upgrading Status. You will get assessed for maintaining Status after your Review Date, whereas you are reviewed daily on a 365-day rolling basis for upgrades. We do this so you can enjoy your Status benefits for the full 12-month Benefit Period, or enjoy your new Status benefits as soon as you have reached the qualification for upgrade!
This means that if you have a Review Date on or after 1 October 2025, your eligibility to maintain Status will be assessed under the new Status assessment rules where you earn Status with your Status Credits balance only and there is a minimum number of Status Credits required to be earned on eligible Virgin Australia marketed and or operated flights flown by you. If you have not met the new Status maintain requirements, then you will downgrade after your Review Date.
Status Credits transferred to a beneficiary through Family Pooling are not earned by the contributor and therefore will not form part of the contributor's Status Credits balance.
Forever Gold
A: Forever Gold is our brand-new Status which celebrates and recognises our members’ long-term loyalty to Virgin Australia. Members who achieve Forever Gold will receive lifetime access to Gold Status benefits.
A: Forever Gold members will enjoy Gold Status benefits (with a few exceptions).
As at 17 October 2024, Gold benefits include:
Applicable T&Cs apply to the use of Gold benefits.
A: Yes there are a few restrictions to the Gold benefits received as part of Forever Gold as follows:
A: To qualify for Forever Gold, your balance must reach a total of 12,000 Status Credits, calculated from 1 February 2013 onwards, with at least 9,000 Status Credits earned on eligible Virgin Australia marketed and or operated flights flown by you. The remaining Status Credits could be earned through Family Pooling (as a beneficiary only) or our other eligible Velocity Partners e.g., eligible Partner Airline marketed and operated flights, Flybuys, or eligible Velocity Points earning credit cards.
Status Credits transferred to a beneficiary through Family Pooling are not earned by the contributor and therefore will not form part of the contributor's Status Credit balance.
A: Forever Gold will launch on 1 October 2025, and members will be able to track their progress to Forever Gold through ‘My Velocity’ from this date.
If you have achieved Forever Gold, you will receive a welcome email. If you have opted-in to receive a physical card ahead of achieving Forever Gold, you will receive a welcome membership pack.
A: To recognise the loyalty of members over the past decade, Status Credits in your balance since 1 February 2013 will be counted when calculating eligibility for Forever Gold.
Status Credits transferred to a beneficiary through Family Pooling are not earned by the contributor and therefore will not form part of the contributor's Status Credits balance.
A: We picked this date for a practical reason. In February 2013, Virgin Australia made changes to its flight booking system. As a result of those system changes, we can only effectively track your Status Credits from this date (i.e., 1 February 2013).
A: If you achieve Forever Gold, you won’t downgrade below Gold, unless your membership is terminated and you rejoin.
A: No. As per the Velocity membership Terms and Conditions, once you have terminated your membership, the Status Credits you have earned during your tenure will be forfeited.
A: You will receive the benefits associated with the higher Status level. For example, if you achieve Forever Gold and then qualify for Platinum at a later date, you’ll receive the Platinum benefits instead of the Gold benefits for the applicable Benefit Period.
Platinum Plus
A: On 1 October 2025, we will be launching our new Status level Platinum Plus which recognises our most frequent flyers, going above and beyond Platinum.
A: Platinum Plus members will have access to Platinum benefits (excluding Companion Gold) plus new benefits including:
Additional Platinum Plus benefits will be announced prior to launch next year.
Applicable T&Cs apply to the use of Platinum Plus benefits.
A: To qualify for Platinum Plus, your balance must reach a total of 2,000 Status Credits, with at least 1,500 Status Credits earned on eligible Virgin Australia marketed and or operated flights flown by you. If you are looking to upgrade into Platinum Plus, these Status Credits in your balance must be earned in a 12 month rolling period, and if you are looking to maintain Platinum Plus, these Status Credits in your balance must be earned in your Benefit Period. The 500 Status Credits that are not required to be earned on eligible Virgin Australia marketed and or operated flights could be earned through Family Pooling (as a beneficiary only) or from our other eligible Velocity Partners e.g., eligible Partner Airline marketed and operated flights, Flybuys or eligible Velocity Points earning credit cards.
Status Credits transferred to a beneficiary through Family Pooling are not earned by the contributor and therefore will not form part of the contributor's Status Credits balance.
A: Platinum Plus will launch on 1 October 2025, and you will be able to track your progress through ‘My Velocity’ from this date.
If you achieve Platinum Plus, we will send you a welcome email. Members opted-in to receive physical cards ahead of achieving Platinum Plus will receive a welcome pack.
A: Fly Later is a benefit available to our Platinum Plus members enabling them to “Fly Later” on a later domestic Virgin Australia marketed and operated flight (excluding Economy Lite fares), on the same day and same route as per the original domestic booked flight. Subject to availability.
Platinum Plus members can request that they and up to 3 accompanying guests on the same booking, be carried on a later flight provided the request is made at least 40 minutes prior to the time of departure of the original domestic Virgin Australia marketed and operated flight.

UpgradeMe Points
A: From 18 November 2024, the different pricing for Choice and Flex Fares using the UpgradeMe Points product will be removed and transition to a single points price. The minimum Points required to upgrade on an eligible fare (excluding Economy Lite fares) will increase; upgrade requests will now start from 10,000 Velocity Points for Virgin Australia Domestic routes and 8,000 Velocity Points for Virgin Australia trans-tasman and short haul international routes

A: The final Points price redeemed will reflect the published price at the time when the request was made (even if the request is waitlisted) rather than when the members upgrade request is accepted. For example, if a request is made prior to 18 November 2024, for a flight that is scheduled to be flown on or after 18 November 2024, the lower price will still apply. UpgradeMe Points requests are subject to Business Class availability and standard UpgradeMe Points Terms and Conditions, which are available here.
A: If you voluntarily change or cancel a confirmed UpgradeMe Points upgrade more than 24 hours before a flight's scheduled departure, a change or cancellation fee of $35 or 4,500 Points per person per booking will apply (waived for Platinum members).
However, you will not need to pay the difference between the UpgradeMe Points price you paid at the time of the original UpgradeMe request upgrade and the UpgradeMe Points price published on the date of the flight change. UpgradeMe changes and cancellations are also subject to the fare conditions of the originally purchased fare and availability.
If you voluntarily cancel or change a confirmed UpgradeMe Points upgrade less than 24 hours before a flight’s scheduled departure, or fail to board a flight, you’ll forfeit the Points used to redeem the UpgradeMe Points upgrade.
