How to give your Velocity Points a helping hand.

Because sometimes life is too short to wait.

If you’re reading this, you’re most likely a Velocity Points pro-in-the-making. You’ve set up your digital card, you’re reaping the benefits of Family Points Pooling, you know which airline partners you can earn with and you’ve selected a partnered credit card to really maximise your earnings. Still, even if you’re the among the savviest of Points collectors, it’s possible you’ll be faced with a time when you’re a few thousand Points short of a plum reward you want to redeem.

In this scenario, do you sigh forlornly and resign yourself to missing out on your heart’s desire? Of course not. Instead, you use Velocity's exceptionally streamlined Points Booster1 to help you get to your reward.

Introducing Points Booster

Whenever you find yourself short on Velocity Points, you’re able to purchase more directly to top-up your existing Points balance. Why would you want to do that, you ask? We’ll get to that in a minute, but first we need to cover some details.

Points Booster can be used by any Velocity member, as long as you have at least 1 Velocity Point in your account balance. You can purchase Points in increments of between 500 and up to 50,000 Points. You can buy Points as many times as you like over the course of a calendar year, up to an annual maximum of 250,000 Points.

Now let’s get into the ‘why’ of Points Booster. There’s a whole stack of common scenarios you might get stuck in where a cheeky Points Booster might save the day. Here are just a few of them.

Scenario one: You're just shy of enough Points for a flight

Let’s say you’ve got a balance of 6,300 Velocity Points and you want to take a trip from Melbourne to Sydney in an Economy Reward Seat on short notice. Now, that’d run you 7,800 Points (plus taxes fees and carrier charges from $27.243), so if you don’t have the time to wait until you accrue the Points organically – a top-up might be just what you need. The process is incredibly straightforward. Just head to the ‘Buy Points’ page, log in to your Velocity account, and make your purchase (purchased Points will be credited straightaway). The additional 1,500 Velocity Points would cost $51 AUD1, and you’d be on your merry way to Sydney. It’s as simple as that!

The same goes for international flights. Maybe you’ve stockpiled 130,000 Points and want to pull out all the stops for a return trip from Sydney to Los Angeles in a Premium Economy Reward Seat. (Good for you. You deserve it). To make it happen, you’ll need a total of 143,400 Velocity Points plus $449.46 In taxes, fees and carrier charges3 – so a quick shot of 13,000 Points at $399 AUD1 will get you to the City of Angels.

Oh, and remember, you can also apply Points Booster to bookings made with our Airline Partners.

Scenario 2: You want to fly in style, but your Points balance is lacking

You can also utilise Points Booster to upgrade your seat on domestic or short-haul international flights booked as a Freedom, Premium Saver, or Premium Fare. Or, if you're a Gold or Platinum member, on international long-haul flights with a Freedom, Premium Saver, or Premium Fare.

For example, you’re a Gold Velocity Member flying to Hong Kong on a Freedom fare. You are 2,000 Velocity Points short of the 18,000 you need for an upgrade to Premium Economy. In that case, you could be lounging in the sky after a simple boost – and it’d only cost you $68 AUD1. That’s a minor investment for some major luxury.

Scenario 3: You're eyeing off something in the Rewards Store, but you're still a little below the total

It has been said that good things come to those who wait. But where’s the fun in that?

If you’ve got your heart set on a fancy hair dryer , or a set of noise-cancelling headphones, or even an excuse to stay indoors for the next few months – then a tactically-deployed Points Boost can make it happen sooner rather than later.

Check out the huge range of products that are available in the Velocity Rewards Store2 and see what your Points can get you (especially with a boost).

Scenario 4: You're not living your best travel life

Don’t forget, your Velocity Points can be redeemed for all sorts of things that can enrich your travel experience. We’re talking car hire (for that road trip up the East Coast you’ve been talking about for ages), hotel accommodation (for when you get sick of sleeping in the car), and even airport lounge access (so you can live it up if you’re leaving the mainland).

And if you find yourself a few thousand Velocity Points short of your necessary total? Well, then, it’s time to get to Boostin’.
