Earning Points

When hiring a car with Europcar, the earn rate will depend on the location in which the car hire is taking place as well as your Velocity status level.

Earn rate per $1 spent on eligible car rentals within Australia & New Zealand are the following based on a member's status level:

  • Red members earn 3 Points
  • Silver members earn 4.5 Points
  • Gold members earn 5.25 Points
  • Platinum members earn 6 Points

 

For eligible car rentals outside of Australia or New Zealand, the flat earn rates are the following based on a member's status level:

  • Red members earn 800 Points
  • Silver members earn 1,200 Points
  • Gold members earn 1,400 Points
  • Platinum members earn 1,600 Points

 

Earning Points on car hire is easy as 1, 2, 3.

  • Search for a car rental with Europcar via the Virgin Australia website or directly with Europcar
  • As part of the checkout process, add your Velocity membership details to the booking
  • Your Velocity Points will be awarded 6-8 weeks after the car rental is completed.

When booking a car hire via the Virgin Australia website, bookings that include the use of any Velocity Points to cover the cost will be ineligible to earn Points.

The elite tier membership is only available once, and is valid for one year only unless retained in accordance with the relevant program requirements of Europcar. Gold and Platinum members can only choose one car hire benefit between Europcar or Hertz.

Claim missing Points

If you forgot to add your Velocity membership at the time of booking, you can still earn your points in two ways:

  • If you booked directly with Europcar and the car hire has not happened yet, simply present your Velocity number when you collect your vehicle from Europcar.

  • Alternatively if the car hire has ended and you booked directly with Europcar, you can claim your points retrospectively provided you were a member at the time of the activity and that the claim is within 3 months of the eligible transaction. Start a claim with Europcar with the button below.

Terms & Conditions:

In Australia and New Zealand, the Points earn rate is based on the base rental cost of the vehicle. Silver, Gold and Platinum members earn tier bonus Points on top of the base Points earned depending on their membership status. For reservations within Australia and New Zealand, as a Red member you will earn 3 Points per $1 spent; as a Silver member you will earn a total of 4.5 Points per $1 spent; as a Gold member you will earn a total of 5.25 Points per $1 spent; and as a Platinum member you will earn a total of 6 Points per $1 spent. For the rest of the world, you will earn a flat rate of Velocity Points per rental: 800 Points as a Red member, 1200 Points as a Silver member, 1400 Points as a Gold member or 1600 Points as a Platinum member. To be eligible to earn Velocity Points, a person must hold current Velocity membership. Members will not earn Points on contract rates, international wholesale rates, staff and industry rates, restricted rate plans, damage liability cover, optional insurance, vehicle registration fee, premium location fee, admin fee, taxes, GST, one way fees, age surcharges, additional driver fees and equipment such ski racks, baby/booster seats or GPS rental costs. Please note that not all car types will be available. 

Points values shown are correct as at 01 October 2017 and are subject to change. All car rentals are governed by Europcar's standard Terms and Conditions. To earn Velocity Points you must be both a Velocity member and the main driver on the vehicle rental agreement with all details matching across both partners. Members will earn Points on the first 30 days of an eligible Europcar rental only. Should a member rent multiple vehicles at the same time, Points will only be earned on the rental of the vehicle returned first. Velocity Frequent Flyer members can earn or redeem Points for car hire bookings made via Virgin Australia with car hire by CarTrawler. All bookings made through this platform are subject to CarTrawler terms and conditions. 
 
You must be a Velocity Member to redeem Points for car hire. If you are booking a car for someone else, please ensure the passport or photo-id presented at vehicle pick up matches the driver’s name you indicate when you confirm your booking. Please ensure you review the cancellation policy attached to your reservation as these vary, and in some cases include non-refundable, non-changeable reservations. You may be entitled to a refund under the Australian Consumer Law in certain circumstances. If your booking qualifies for a refund, the total number of Points used for the booking can be refunded. Partial refunds of Points are not available. Please note that prepaid redemption bookings for Car Hire are non-refundable within 48 hours of travel. The minimum Points required to redeem a rental car via CarTrawler is 2,000 Velocity Points. The actual Points required vary depending on the vehicle, rental brand, rate type, time of booking and date for which the booking is made. Redemption levels are subject to change at the discretion of Velocity Frequent Flyer. You can use your Points to cover a partial amount or the full amount of the car rental rate including taxes and surcharges. Points cannot be earned on full redemption bookings made with Points. For Points + Pay bookings, Velocity Points will be earned on any "+ Pay" component for Australia and New Zealand reservations only. Any additional direct payments required at time of pick up, are not included. 

^Status Match: 
 Complimentary Partner Membership is available with either Hertz or Europcar. Once you have selected Complimentary Partner Membership with either Hertz or Europcar, you are unable to change this selection or obtain a further Complimentary Partner Membership with the alternate partner. The benefit is available once only and your new level of membership with your chosen program will last for 1 year from date of activation. To retain your new level of membership, you will be required to meet the status maintain requirements in line with the program requirements.
