Don't let your hard-earned Velocity Points vanish.

If you’re a Velocity member who’s been a bit quiet on the activity front – it’s OK, we forgive you – we’re here to relay a small public service announcement. Points in your account can, and will expire. The good news however, is that it’s something you can easily prevent.

With that, here’s our guide to all things Points expiry.

When do my Points expire?

Your Points expire after 24 months of account inactivity. That means no earnings or redemptions for two whole years – not a single Point in or a single Point out.

Say the only way you earn Velocity Points is through a Points-earning credit card, and your last activity is the monthly credit card points that were automatically transferred to your account on 18 October 2019. If you cancelled the card after that, never used it again, or didn’t redeem Points for any rewards, you’d have until 18 October 2021 until your Points expired.

What can I do to stop them from expiring?

It’s easy, and in fact, probably harder to get your Points to expire. Essentially, every time you earn, redeem or buy Points, you’re renewing your Points for another two years.

Let’s continue with the example above: if all you did was continue to earn Points via your credit card, you’d never have to worry about your balance expiring.

On the flip side, say you didn’t use your credit card for over a year and a half, and then swiped it again in July 2021. Once those credit card points land in your Velocity account, boom, you’re back in it for another two years. Told you it was easy!

Please note that if you’re part of a Family Pool, receiving Points via family pool transfers won’t count as account activity.

Will I know if my Points are going to expire?

We’ll send you an email a few months before your Points expiry date, so you have plenty of time to get yourself back into the game – just make sure you’ve got the most up-to-date email address on your profile! And with partners in the air and on the ground, from retail to ride-share, earning Points is easy.

In the mood to treat yourself? See where your Points could take you.

Can I get my Points back once they expire?

Unfortunately, no. Once your Points expire, they can’t be reinstated. But given how easy it is to maintain an active account, you’ve got no excuses!

Here's the legal stuff you might want to know

A Member's Points will expire the later of 24 months after the date of last Account Activity. Expiry of Points will not result in closure of a Membership Account. Velocity Frequent Flyer will provide the Member with reasonable prior written email notification that the Member’s Points will expire shortly unless the Member engages in Account Activity. Points cannot be re-credited once they have expired.
