Trans-Tasman and International Short Haul Changes

1 August 2018 


  • For flights booked from 1 August 2018 for travel from 28 October 2018, Velocity members will earn at the improved rate of 5 Points per $1 spent1 for Trans-Tasman and International Short Haul bookings.
  • Velocity Status Members will continue to earn a Status bonus when flying with Virgin Australia on Trans-Tasman and International Short Haul bookings²
    • Platinum members receive a Points bonus of 100% of the base Points earned
    • Gold members receive a Points bonus of 75% of the base Points earned
    • Silver members receive a Points bonus of 50% of the base Points earned
  • For Trans-Tasman and International Short Haul flights booked from 1 August 2018 for travel from 28 October 2018, Velocity members will earn Status Credits in accordance with the following table.

  • Trans-Tasman and International Short Haul flights flown prior to 28 October 2018 will earn Points and Status Credits in accordance with the current Points and Status Credit earn rates.
  • Trans-Tasman and International Short Haul flights booked prior to 1 August 2018 and flown after 28 October 2018 will earn Points and Status Credits in accordance with the current Points and Status Credit earn rates.
  • Points and Status Credit earn rates for Domestic and International Long Haul remain unchanged and can be found here.
  • Domestic flights booked after 1 August and flown after 28 October 2018 as part of a Trans-Tasman or International Short Haul journey will earn Status Credits at the same rate as domestic standalone journeys
  • Where your Trans-Tasman or International Short Haul journey contains a flight operated by another airline that does not have a VA flight number, then that flight will be ineligible for Points and Status Credit earn. All other flights in the journey operated by Virgin Australia with a VA flight number will earn Points and Status Credits as per the table above.
  • Where your Trans-Tasman or International Short Haul journey contains a flight with a VA flight number operated by a Velocity Partner Airline you will earn Points and Status Credits based on your fare class and the number of miles flown for the whole journey, including any flights operated by Virgin Australia.
  • Trans-Tasman and International Short Haul flights purchased in NZD or other currency will earn Velocity Points based on AUD spent

VIRGIN AUSTRALIA UNVEILS ENHANCEMENTS FOR ALL TRANS-TASMAN FLIGHTS

  • Recently Virgin Australia also announced new services between Australia and New Zealand including Newcastle to Auckland, Sydney to Wellington and Melbourne to Queenstown with additional services between Auckland and major Australian destinations.
  • Virgin Australia have also unveiled a suite of enhancements to make the journey between Australia and New Zealand more comfortable for Virgin Australia passengers and Velocity members, including becoming the only airline to offer WiFi for all Trans-Tasman flights. For travel from 28 October, all Tasman fares will include complimentary baggage, meals, drinks and limited complimentary in-flight connectivity, which can be extended throughout the flight for a small fee
