How to use your Flybuys account to earn Velocity Points

The Flybuys card. It’s a rite of passage into responsible adulting, but it’s also a silver ticket to the South Pacific (or, you know, hundreds of other destinations).

Yep, you read that right. Scanning your Flybuys card when you shop with Coles, Target, Bunnings, Kmart, Officeworks, First Choice Liquor, Liquorland and a range of other partners earns you Flybuys points that can then be converted into Velocity Points; Velocity Points that can then be converted into rewards like flights. 

So to get your flight fund started, here are four steps you’ll need to remember:

First things first

It sounds obvious, but to get things started, you’ll need to link your Flybuys and Velocity accounts. Head to flybuys.com.au/velocity, log into both accounts with your details, hit the link button and you’re done. See? Faster than the avocado specials get snapped up at Coles. If you’re not a member of either then make sure you sign up to Flybuys and Velocity stat.

Get busy earning - all year round

It’s easy to work out how many Flybuys points you’re earning – it’s 1 point per $1 spent at Coles, Target, Bunnings, Kmart, Officeworks, First Choice Liquor, and Liquorland. You can check out the full list of partners and points you’ll earn on the Flybuys website.

Making the switch

If you’re sitting on a stash of Flybuys points, you can transfer them over to Velocity Points at any time – it’s really easy to do it online. For every 1,000 Flybuys points you transfer over, we’ll give you 500 Velocity Points in return. ​

Or set and forget by turning on Auto Transfer. With Auto Transfer on, every time you collect 1,000 Flybuys points, we’ll automatically transfer them to your linked Velocity account for 500 Velocity Points, including your existing points balance. It’s the hooray without the hassle!​

So what does that get you? Well, it’s only 17,800 Velocity Points (plus $125.60 in taxes, fees and carrier charges~) for a one-way Economy flight from Sydney to Fiji. Meaning you could be saying "Bula!" to Fiji before you know it.​
