Here's How it Works with Virgin Australia

  1. Update and link
    Before you fly, get the Velocity App ready! Just open or download it, tap Pay with Points, and follow the steps to update your preferences and turn on notifications so you can be notified of eligible transactions. Lastly, link your eligible Visa credit or debit card.*
  2. Make a purchase onboard
    Craving food or drink while in the air? Go for it… Simply use your linked Visa credit or debit card to pay for your onboard purchase on selected Virgin Australia operated flights, just as your normally would.*
  3. Pay with Points
    Soon after you land, you’ll receive a notification from the Velocity App if it’s an eligible transaction. Tap the notification or visit the Velocity App and choose to Pay with Points. If you Pay with Points, we’ll deduct the Velocity Points from your Velocity account. Your eligible transaction amount will then be credited back to your linked Visa credit or debit card usually between 2 to 10 business days after you confirm to Pay with Points.

The option to Pay with Points on eligible transactions expires 24 hours after the purchase is processed. Velocity Points used for Pay with Points transactions cannot be reversed or refunded once completed. T&Cs apply.*

*Pay with Points - Terms and Conditions

These Terms contain important things that you should be aware of, specifically:

  • Clause 5: Velocity will not reverse or refund any Velocity Points redeemed for any completed PWP Transaction (including where the member has received a refund from the partner).
  • Clause 3.1: Velocity reserves the right to de-link inactive payment cards.
  • Clause 7.2: To the extent permitted by law, Velocity is not responsible for errors, unavailability, or technical issues in connection with Pay with Points.
  • Clause 7.1: Misuse by the member of Pay with Points may result in suspension or cancellation of the member’s Pay with Points access or Velocity membership.

1. The basics

  • These terms and conditions (PWP T&Cs) outline the basis on which Velocity offers Velocity   members the ability to redeem their Velocity Points with money being credited back to their linked payment card for eligible transactions made using their linked payment card at participating Velocity partners (Pay with Points or PWP Transactions). These PWP T&Cs apply in addition to the Velocity membership Terms and Conditions (Velocity T&Cs) and any specific Pay with Points offer terms and conditions for the participating Velocity partners notified to Velocity members at the relevant time. 
  • Unless otherwise defined in these PWP T&Cs, any capitalised terms used in these PWP T&Cs have the meaning provided to them in the Velocity T&Cs. If there is any inconsistency between these PWP T&Cs and the Velocity T&Cs, the terms of the Velocity T&Cs will apply. For avoidance of doubt, any breach by Velocity members of these PWP T&Cs, or any changes to these PWP T&Cs, will be dealt with in accordance with these PWP T&Cs and the Velocity T&Cs. 

2. Who can use Pay with Points

Pay with Points can be used in Australia by active Velocity members who hold an eligible active Australian issued Visa credit or debit payment card. If your Velocity account is inactive, suspended or closed, you will not be able to use Pay with Points. The relevant credit or debit card account must not be cancelled or suspended at the time you make an eligible transaction or wish to redeem Velocity Points through Pay with Points. Non-reloadable prepaid cards and overseas issued payment cards are not eligible for Pay with Points.

3. How to use Pay with Points

3.1. Card linking

  • To use Pay with Points, Velocity members must link an eligible active Australian issued Visa credit or debit payment card which is held in their name via the Velocity App (with a maximum of 5 linked cards at a time). Payment cards can be managed or de-linked at any time via the Velocity App. The 16-digit card number or Primary Account Number (PAN) can only be linked to one Velocity account. Supplementary payment cards which use the same PAN cannot be linked to other Velocity accounts. 
  • By linking a payment card, Velocity will collect information about the linked payment card and all eligible transactions made with participating Velocity partners using that linked payment card, even if the Velocity member elects not to use Pay with Points for the eligible transaction. Velocity will handle this personal information in accordance with its Privacy Policy

Velocity reserves the right to de-link or remove linked payment card(s), if the card is inactive, meaning it has not been used for a PWP Transaction  for 6 or more months. Payment cards de-linked or removed for inactivity may be re-linked via the Velocity App.

3.2. PWP Transactions 

  • To use Pay with Points, Velocity members must use the linked payment card to pay for an eligible PWP Transaction with participating Velocity partners. If the PWP Transaction is eligible for payment using Pay with Points (for more details about eligibility refer to clause 4 below), the Velocity member will receive a push notification (provided that they have opted into ‘Velocity exclusives, Pay with Points’, subscription preference in their Velocity account and have push notifications switched on via their device and the Velocity App settings) which will offer them the ability to redeem Velocity Points for the PWP Transaction. Alternatively, the PWP Transaction can be accessed via the Pay with Points page within the Velocity App. Velocity members will need to confirm the PWP Transactions via the Velocity App within 24 hours from the time the transaction is processed (the PWP Transaction will expire after that time and Points will no longer be able to be redeemed for that transaction). It can take up to 5 business days for the PWP Transaction to be processed.
  • If the Velocity member chooses to redeem Velocity Points for the PWP Transaction, the relevant Velocity Points amount will be deducted from the member’s Velocity account and the cash value of the PWP Transaction will be credited back to the linked payment card account. It usually takes between 2 - 10 business days for the credit to appear on the linked payment card account. In rare cases, it can take up to two card statement billing cycles for the credit to appear on the linked payment card account. Please note: a confirmation to use Pay with Points and the redemption of Velocity Points cannot be reversed, cancelled or changed. Please also refer to clause 5 below prior to using Pay with Points.
  • If, at the time they choose to redeem the PWP Transaction, a Velocity member doesn’t have sufficient Velocity Points for the PWP Transaction, they will be prompted with an error message in the Velocity App. Unless otherwise specified, a maximum transaction limit of $5,000 per transaction applies for all PWP Transactions. Please note that additional terms and conditions may apply to certain Pay with Points offers, including minimum or different maximum PWP Transaction limits, and product eligibility criteria. For more information, please refer to specific partner terms and conditions.

 4. What is an eligible PWP Transaction

A PWP Transaction is a payment transaction that meets all of the following criteria:

  • the transaction was made with a Velocity partner that participates in Pay with Points; 
  • the transaction was made in Australian dollars (AUD);
  • the payment card was successfully linked via the Velocity App prior to the transaction being made, was used for the transaction and remains linked when the Velocity member confirmed the Pay with Points offer;
  • the Velocity member had sufficient Velocity Points to cover the total amount paid on the linked payment card at the time the transaction was authorised by the member’s issuing bank or financial institution and at the time when the Velocity member confirmed the Pay with Points offer;
  • the Velocity member met any specific terms and conditions for the participating Velocity partner, including minimum and maximum transaction limits; and
  • the transaction was able to be tracked by Velocity’s Pay with Points supplier, noting that Velocity’s supplier may be unable to track every transaction using a linked payment card. This includes transactions that are routed to a payment scheme not available for Pay with Points, payments of existing card balances, balance transfers, cash advances, ATM transactions, convenience checks, payments made for pre-paid and re-loadable cards such as certain gift cards, and payments made for payment instruments that can readily be converted to cash (for example, travellers cheques, money orders, wire transfers, and similar products or services).

Please note that Velocity members can still use Pay with Points for transactions with participating Velocity partners that are only partially paid with the linked payment card (and partially with another form of payment (e.g. gift cards). However, only the portion paid with the linked payment card will be eligible as a PWP Transaction provided it meets the other relevant requirements set out above. 

5. Pay with Points and refunds 

Velocity will not reverse or refund any Velocity Points redeemed for any PWP Transaction, including where the relevant member is provided with a refund by the participating Velocity partner for the transaction value (in whole or in part) of the eligible PWP transaction for any reason. Velocity members should contact the participating Velocity partner for any refunds, returns or product or service enquiries or concerns. Cash refunds will be processed by the participating Velocity partner in accordance with their refund policy. 

6. Velocity Points are not property or money

Velocity Points are not property or money, and have no cash value. The use of Velocity Points in connection with Pay with Points is not intended to suggest or imply anything to the contrary.

7. Other important things to note in relation to Pay with Points

7.1. Velocity member’s rights and obligations

  • As required under the Velocity T&Cs, Velocity members must act fairly and reasonably when using Pay with Points and comply with all their obligations in relation to Pay with Points. This means that you cannot engage in misleading, dishonest or fraudulent behaviour in any way connected with Pay with Points or a PWP Transaction. 
  • If Velocity reasonably suspects that a Velocity member has breached their obligations under the PWP T&Cs and/or the Velocity T&Cs, or Velocity reasonably suspects that there may have been a fraudulent or dishonest activity in connection with a Velocity member’s use of Pay with Points, linked payment card(s) and/or Velocity account, Velocity may de-link or remove the Velocity member’s linked payment card(s), suspend or end Pay with Points for the Velocity member’s account, and/or take any other actions permitted under the Velocity T&Cs, including to suspend or end the Velocity member’s Velocity membership and/or Velocity account (which would also mean that the relevant Velocity member cannot use Pay with Points). See the Velocity T&Cs for more detail on what happens when a Velocity member’s membership and/or account is suspended or ended. 

7.2. Velocity’s rights and obligations

  • To the extent permitted by law, Velocity is not responsible for any errors or misrepresentations in relation to the Pay with Points offers, delay or unavailability of Pay with Points (for any reason, including technical or connectivity issues), and any products or services offered by participating Velocity partners or purchased by Velocity members. Velocity makes no express or implied warranty or representation in connection with any Pay with Points offers, Pay with Points, or the products or services offered by participating Velocity partners or purchased by Velocity members, and (to the extent permitted by law) it is not liable for any loss or damage suffered by the Velocity members or any other third party in connection with any Pay with Points offers, Pay with Points, and the products or services offered by participating Velocity partners or purchased by Velocity members. 
  • Any issues with the products or services purchased using the linked payment card (including those where Pay with Points was used to receive a credit back to the linked payment card for any part of the transaction value, and/or any request for a repair or replacement of the products or services purchased using the linked payment card (including those where Pay with Points was used to receive a credit back to the linked payment card for any part of the transaction value), and/or any request for a refund of the transaction value (in whole or in part) should be raised by the Velocity member directly with the relevant participating Velocity partner who will handle these matters in accordance with their refund policy. 

8. Changes to Pay with Points

Velocity reserves the right to change these PWP T&Cs, withdraw or change any Pay with Points offers (including the relevant Points redemption rate) and withdraw or change the Pay with Points program. Where required, notice will be given in accordance with the Velocity T&Cs.

Pay with Points is available for purchases made from the Virgin Australia Onboard Menu on Virgin Australia operated domestic and short haul international flights (excluding flights to/from Doha and those operated by other airlines on behalf of Virgin Australia, including Link Airways). A minimum spend of $1 and a maximum spend of $200 per transaction applies. Purchases can take up to 5 business days to process. Use of Pay with Points is subject to the Pay with Points T&Cs above.
