Upgrade to Platinum Plus membership¹

To upgrade to Platinum Plus, you must meet the following criteria:

Your Status Credits balance must reach 2,000 Status Credits
At least 1,500 of those 2,000 Status Credits must be earned from eligible Virgin Australia marketed and or operated flights, flown by you
The criteria above must be achieved within the last 365 days
We assess your eligibility to upgrade each time Status Credits are added to your account to ensure you are upgraded as soon as possible

Maintain your Platinum Plus membership¹

To maintain your Platinum Plus membership you must meet the following criteria:

Your Status Credits balance must reach 2,000 Status Credits
At least 1,500 of those 2,000 Status Credits must be earned from eligible Virgin Australia marketed and or operated flights, flown by you
The criteria above must be achieved within your 12 month Benefit Period
Following the end of your Benefit Period, we will assess your eligibility to maintain Platinum Plus

Platinum Plus members and up to 8 accompanying guests in the same booking may select Economy X seating providing extra legroom and preferred overhead locker space on Domestic and International Short Haul flights operated by Virgin Australia with a VA flight number.
Select your seat from the Preferred Seating Zone – as determined by your Velocity Status and the fare class booked – on domestic or international short-haul flights marketed and operated by Virgin Australia.

Add your Velocity membership number to your booking to ensure the appropriate seats available to your Status are displayed correctly.
For Virgin Australia operated domestic, international short-haul flights with a VA flight number:

You may select your seat at the time of booking or at check-in. You can also select your seat after you have made a booking by calling Virgin Australia’s Guest Contact Centre.

For Virgin Australia international long-haul flights between Australia and Doha (VA1-29)^{^:}

You and up to 8 guests on your booking will be eligible for complimentary advance seat selection for Standard, Preferred or Extra Legroom seats (excluding Group bookings).

You may select your Economy Choice, Flex or Business Class seat, from the time of booking, by calling Virgin Australia’s Guest Contact Centre.

You may select your Economy or Business Reward Seat by calling the Priority Phone Service team.

You may also select your seat by selecting "Manage Your Booking" on the Virgin Australia website.

Any advance seat selection will be subject to terms and conditions.
You can priority purchase up to two Economy seats on any sold out Domestic or International Short-Haul Virgin Australia marketed and operated flight when the seats cannot be booked online.

Requests must be made prior to midday the day before travel (within the same time zone as the departure port) and bookings must be for a Full Economy fare.

The Platinum Plus member making the Priority Economy Seat purchase must be travelling on the booking.

Platinum Plus members are entitled to four complimentary Business Class upgrades per Benefit Period, when flying on a Choice or Flex fare on Domestic and International Short-Haul flights marketed and operated by Virgin Australia (excluding Christmas Island and Cocos (Keeling) Islands)~. Log in to My Velocity to view your available upgrades.

Upgrades are subject to Business Class Reward Seat availability and to the Upgrade Cancellation and Amendment Policy.

Members can also use their complimentary upgrades for guests travelling with them on the same flight, when booked in a Flex fare.

Request an upgrade any time after you have booked your flight, up to two hours prior to scheduled departure time by contacting the Priority Phone Service team.

Requests can be made at any Virgin Australia Lounge. Request any same-day upgrade on Virgin Australia operated Domestic flights up to 40 minutes prior to scheduled flight departure time.

Domestic or International Short Haul flights

Use Velocity Points to Upgrade from an Economy Choice or Flex fare (excluding Economy Lite fares) to Business Class on Domestic (excluding Christmas Island and Cocos (Keeling) Islands), Trans-Tasman or International Short Haul flights operated by Virgin Australia with a VA flight number .

Check the number of Points required to upgrade.

Upgrade online any time after you have booked your flight, up to four hours prior to flight departure time.

Upgrade via our Priority Phone Service team until two hours prior to the scheduled flight departure time (a fee may apply).

Upgrade via Virgin Australia's Guest Contact Centre: until two hours prior to the scheduled flight departure time. Call the Guest Contact Centre on 13 67 89.

Upgrade at domestic Check-in until 40 minutes prior and at International Check-in until 60 minutes prior to scheduled flight departure time. See one of our friendly ground crew for assistance.

Upgrade at the Virgin Australia domestic Lounge on the same-day of travel up to 40 minutes prior to scheduled flight departure time.

If you have made any special requests for your booking, or if your booking was originally made through a mobile device, at the airport or through the Guest Contact Centre, please contact our Priority Phone Service team at least two hours prior to the scheduled flight departure time to request the upgrade.

Upgrades are subject to Business Class Reward Seat availability and to the Upgrade Cancellation and Amendment Policy.

International Long Haul flights between Australia and Doha (VA1-29)

Platinum Plus members travelling on Economy Choice and Flex fares will be eligible to request to use Velocity Points to upgrade to Business Class on Virgin Australia flights between Australia and Doha (VA 1-29), subject to availability.

If your request for an upgrade isn't successful at the time because of availability, you can request to be placed on a waitlist in the event upgrades become available.

Use Velocity Points to Upgrade from an Economy Choice or Economy Flex fare to Business Class on International Long Haul flights between Australia and Doha (VA 1-29).

Upgrade online or via our Priority Phone Service team. You may upgrade online until 72 hours prior to your scheduled flight departure time, or via our Priority Phone Service team until 48 hours prior to the scheduled flight departure time (a fee may apply).

Please note, you cannot select specific Business Class seats if you have called the Priority Phone Service team between 48-72 hours prior to the scheduled flight departure time and received an upgrade. Instead, your seat will be assigned at the airport during check-in.

Receive the highest level of priority when you register for an UpgradeMe Points waitlist on your upcoming Virgin Australia operated domestic or international short haul flight with a VA flight number, or Virgin Australia's international long-haul flight with a VA flight number (VA1-29). Subject to availability.

Domestic or International Short Haul flights

Priority will be allocated based on Status, with the highest level of priority extended to Platinum Plus members, followed by Platinum, Gold, Silver and Red.

International Long Haul flights between Australia and Doha (VA1-

Platinum Plus Velocity members travelling on Economy Choice and Flex fares will be eligible to request to use Velocity Points to upgrade to Business Class on Virgin Australia flights between Australia and Doha (VA1-29), subject to availability.

If your request for an upgrade isn't successful at the time because of availability, you can request to be placed on a waitlist in the event upgrades become available.

Priority for the waitlist will be allocated based first on fare type and then Velocity Status. The highest level of priority will be extended to members that have purchased an Economy Flex fare and then prioritised by Velocity Status. I.e., Platinum Plus members that have purchased a Flex fare will have priority, followed by Platinum, Gold, then Silver and then Red. The next level of priority will be extended to Platinum Plus, Platinum and Gold members that have purchased an Economy Choice fare, with Platinum Plus members having higher priority than Platinum and Gold members.

Please note, Status is validated both at time of requesting the waitlist and awarding an upgrade. We validate your Status at time of request to ensure you are eligible to waitlist, and then we validate your Status when awarding the upgrade so that we can prioritise your waitlist request based on your Status.

Can’t find a seat on a Virgin Australia flight? Request a waitlist booking for a seat in a cabin if all seats in the desired cabin of a Virgin Australia operated flight, with a VA flight number are fully booked.

Priority will be allocated based on Status, with the highest level of priority extended to Platinum Plus members, followed by Platinum, Gold, Silver and Red.

A Priority waitlist booking doesn’t guarantee that a seat will be made available for purchase.

If you've already made a booking directly with Virgin Australia: If your priority waitlist is successful, the fare payable will be a full Economy or Business Class fare.

If you've already made a booking with a travel agent or another third party: If your priority waitlist is succesful, the fare payable will be a full Economy Flex or Business Class fare.

As a Platinum Plus member, you will be able to redeem an Economy Reward Seat, for one trip per year to any domestic Australia destination or international short-haul destination when travelling on any Virgin Australia operated flight beginning with a 'VA' flight number*.

Reward Seat carrier charges can be paid for using Points or a combination of Points and cash.

These Guaranteed Economy Reward Seats must be booked at least six months prior to the desired departure date and allow one day for domestic flights and three days for international flights either side of the desired departure and return dates. Our Reward Seat Guarantee is available for one itinerary per year and may include up to 3 accompanying family members.

Platinum Plus members will receive an additional checked baggage allowance of up to 25kg when travelling in Economy Class or Business Class.

Your checked baggage will be delivered with priority to the arrivals carousel at your destination when travelling on domestic or international short-haul flights operated by Virgin Australia with a VA flight number, or when travelling between Australia and Doha on VA1-29.
Request to Fly Ahead to your destination on an earlier same day domestic Virgin Australia operated flight, subject to seat availability. Fly Ahead requests can be made for you and up to 3 guests on the same booking.

Available when flying on domestic Virgin Australia Business, Economy Flex or Choice fares where your flight is operated by Virgin Australia. Fly Ahead is also available on Virgin Australia Economy and Business Class Reward Seats, and Business Class Upgrades.

Fly Ahead is not available when travelling on Economy Lite fares, or for Group bookings.

Fly Ahead is subject to seat availability and this is controlled by Virgin Australia. While an earlier flight may have seats available for sale, these may not be available for Fly Ahead.

When Flying Ahead in Business Class, we may not be able to provide you with a Business Class meal.

At the airport

Requests must be made at least 40 minutes before scheduled departure, while the flight is still open for check-in.

Travelling with carry-on baggage only: Requests can be made at a Virgin Australia check-in kiosk, Priority Check-in counter, in the Virgin Australia Lounge or at the Service Desk (where available).

Travelling with checked baggage (but haven't yet checked in): Requests can only be made to a Virgin Australia staff member at the Virgin Australia Priority Check-in counter.

Members requesting to Fly Ahead may contact the Priority Phone Service team on the day of travel until 1 hour prior to the departure time of the desired flight.

With Fly Later*, you can request to be moved to a later domestic Virgin Australia marketed and operated light (excluding Economy Lite fares) on the same day that suits your schedule (subject to availability).

Fly Later is subject to seat availability and this is controlled by Virgin Australia. While a later flight may have seats available for sale, these may not be available for Fly Later.

When Flying Later in Business Class, we may not be able to provide you with a Business Class meal.

If your Fly Later request is granted, and you are moved to a lower fare class than what was originally purchased, you will not receive a refund for any difference, unless you are entitled to a refund under Australian Consumer Law.

Request at the airport

Requests must be made at least 40 minutes before scheduled departure of original flight, while the flight is still open for check-in.

Travelling with carry-on baggage only: Requests can be made at a Virgin Australia check-in kiosk, Priority Check-in counter, in the Virgin Australia Lounge or at the Service Desk (where available).

Travelling with checked baggage (but haven't yet checked in): Requests can only be made to a Virgin Australia staff member at the Virgin Australia Priority Check-in counter.

Platinum Plus members enjoy complimentary access to inflight Wi-Fi, powered by Wi-Fi Onboard, on selected Domestic and International Short-haul aircraft operated by Virgin Australia with a VA flight number. Inflight Wi-Fi is not available on F100, A320 or B737-700 aircraft. While Wi-Fi Onboard is being activated across the Virgin Australia fleet, we are unable to guarantee that your aircraft will be equipped with the service.

Use of the inflight connectivity is subject to the Virgin Austalia Terms of Use and Wi-Fi Onboard Terms of Use.

When flying on a Virgin Australia operated domestic flight Platinum Plus members receive complimentary access pre-departure to enjoy freshly prepared food, barista coffee, free Wi-Fi and a selection of curated wines and craft beers from 12pm.

You can invite three additional guests, plus up to three children aged between 2 to 17 years, into our Virgin Australia Domestic Lounges.
Your invited guests need not be travelling with you, but must enter the lounge and be accompanied by you.
Enjoy lounge access immediately upon arrival at your destination after your domestic Virgin Australia operated flight for up to 60 minutes (subject to space availability).

Gift a Platinum membership to a Companion of your choice

Contact our Priority Phone Service team to gift Companion Platinum membership.

If you have already gifted Companion Gold in your last Benefit Period, you may only upgrade that same Companion Gold member to Companion Platinum.

Once you have nominated your Companion, Velocity will notify them of their Status upgrade by email.

It is not possible to change your Companion once they have been gifted Platinum membership status.

Choose to pool Points, or Points and Status Credits, earned by family members into one Account.

There may be a maximum of six family members, living at the same address, involved in a pool. This may include up to four children under the age of 18 and two adults 18 years or over (including the main pooling beneficiary).

Status Credits earned through Family Pooling (as a beneficiary) will not count towards the minimum number of Status Credits you must earn on eligible Virgin Australia marketed and or operated flights, flown by you, to upgrade or maintain Status.

Choose to pause your membership for a period of six months when you are expecting a new addition to the family.

To apply for a Membership Pause for Parental Leave, you may be required to provide documentation of pregnancy, recent or future child birth or adoption of a child in the form of a doctor’s certificate, a birth certificate or an adoption or foster parent registration.

^{^}Virgin Australia flights between Australia and Doha (VA1-29) will be operated by Qatar Airways for Virgin Australia.

1. To be eligible to upgrade into Platinum Plus Status, members must have a total of 2,000 Status Credits in their Status Credit balance earned during the previous 365 days, with at least 1,500 Status Credits in their balance earned on eligible Virgin Australia marketed and/or Virgin Australia operated flights flown by the member. To be eligible to maintain Platinum Plus Status, members must have a total of 2,000 Status Credits in their Status Credit balance earned during their Benefit Period, with at least 1,500 Status Credits in their balance earned on eligible Virgin Australia marketed and/or Virgin Australia operated flights flown by the member. Status Credits earned through eligible Partner Airline marketed and operated flights, Family Pooling (as a beneficiary), Flybuys, eligible Velocity Points earning credit cards or with any other partners will not count towards the minimum balance of Status Credits required to be earned on eligible Virgin Australia marketed and/or Virgin Australia operated flights flown by the member. Status Credits transferred to a beneficiary through Family Pooling are not earned by the contributor and do not form part of the contributor’s Status Credit balance. Your Status Credit balance is calculated daily based on the previous 365 days. Your Status Credit balance may fluctuate daily as new Status Credits are earned, and older Status Credits reach the end of their validity.

2. Platinum Plus members will earn a 100% Points bonus, on top of the base Points earned, when travelling on Virgin Australia marketed and operated Domestic and International Short-haul flights, excluding Economy Lite fares. Platinum Plus members will earn a 100% Points bonus on the miles flown, in addition to the base Points earned on Virgin Australia flights between Australia and Doha (operated by Qatar Airways for Virgin Australia), excluding Economy Lite fares.

3. Please ensure you download the Velocity Frequent Flyer App as a valid virtual or physical membership card needs to be presented to attain benefits.

~ Platinum Plus members who have purchased a Choice or Flex fare on Virgin Australia marketed and operated Domestic (excluding Christmas Island and Cocos Island), Trans-Tasman and International Short Haul flights are entitled to use their available complimentary upgrades to Business class. Only valid Upgrade certificates can be used. To check how many upgrades you have available and the validity of your Upgrade certificates, log into My Velocity online and select “My Benefits”. All upgrades are subject to Reward Seat availability, which is controlled by Virgin Australia, and to the Upgrade Cancellation and Amendment Policy. Some flights may have no upgrades available. 4. For some Choice fares booked on Virgin Australia marketed/Air Canada operated flights, Velocity members will not earn Velocity Points or Status Credits for the portion of the flight that is operated internally within Canada. 5. These Velocity Status benefits are only available on ANA operated flights between Australia and Japan with a VA or NH flight number, and ANA operated flight within Japan with a VA flight number.

6. These Velocity Status benefits are only available on Air New Zealand operated flights with a VA flight number, between Australia and New Zealand.

7. Gold, Platinum and Platinum Plus members will be eligible for complimentary Advance Seat Selection (standard, preferred or extra leg room) for themselves and up to 8 accompanying guests on the same booking (excluding group bookings). Any advance seat selection is subject to terms and conditions.

8. Virgin Atlantic Revivals Lounge access is exclusively a benefit for Platinum and Platinum Plus Velocity members only and commences on 17 December 2018. Guests are not permitted.
