Upgrade to Gold membership¹

To upgrade to Gold, you must meet the following criteria:

Your Status Credits balance must reach 500 Status Credits
At least 250 of those Status Credits must be earned from eligible Virgin Australia marketed and or operated flights, flown by you
The criteria above must be achieved within the last 365 days
We assess your eligibility to upgrade each time Status Credits are added to your account to ensure you are upgraded as soon as possible

Maintain your Gold membership¹

To maintain your Gold membership you must meet the following requirements:

Your Status Credits balance must reach 400 Status Credits
At least 200 of those 400 Status Credits must be earned from eligible Virgin Australia marketed and or operated flights, flown by you
The criteria above must be achieved within your 12 month Benefit Period
Following the end of your Benefit Period, we will assess your eligibility to maintain Gold

Upgrade to Forever Gold

To qualify for Forever Gold, you must meet the following criteria:

Your Forever Gold Status Credits balance must reach a total of 12,000 Status Credits
At least 9,000 of those 12,000 Status Credits must be earned from eligible Virgin Australia marketed and or operated flights, flown by you
Your Forever Gold Status Credits balance is calculated from any Status Credits you have earned from 1 February 2013 onwards.

Your benefits before your travel

From upgrades, seat selection and priority service the benefits of being a Gold Status member start before you even get to the airport.

For Virgin Australia operated domestic, international short-haul flights with a VA flight number:

You may select your seat at the time of booking or at check-in (excluding Economy Lite fares). You can also select your seat after you have made a booking by calling Virgin Australia’s Guest Contact Centre.

Advance seat selection is available for purchase when travelling on Economy Lite fares up until 3 hours before the flight’s scheduled departure.

*Complimentary advance seat selection is available for Gold members travelling on an Economy Lite fare when checking in within 3 hours of the flight’s scheduled departure time.

For Virgin Australia international long-haul flights between Australia and Doha (VA1-29)^{^}:

You and up to 8 guests on your booking will be eligible for complimentary advance seat selection for Standard, Preferred or Extra Legroom seats (excluding Group bookings).

You may select your Economy Choice, Flex or Business Class seat, from the time of booking, by calling Virgin Australia’s Guest Contact Centre.

You may select your Economy or Business Reward Seat by calling the Membership Contact Centre.

You may also select your seat by selecting "Manage Your Booking" on the Virgin Australia website.

*Any advance seat selection will be subject to terms and conditions.
Select your seat from the Preferred Seating Zone – as determined by your Velocity membership level and the fare class booked – on domestic or international short-haul flights marketed and operated by Virgin Australia.

Add your Velocity membership number to your booking to ensure the appropriate seats available for your level of membership are displayed correctly.

*Preferential Seating is not available on Economy Lite fares unless purchasing a seat or when checking in within 3 hours of the flight’s scheduled departure time.
Receive priority when you register for an UpgradeMe Points waitlist on your upcoming Virgin Australia operated domestic or international short-haul flights with a VA flight number, or Virgin Australia's international long haul flights operated by Qatar Airways with a VA flight number (VA1-29). Subject to availability.

Domestic and International Short Haul flights

Priority will be allocated based on Status, with the highest level of priority extended to Platinum Plus members, followed by Platinum, Gold, Silver and Red.

International Long Haul flights between Australia and Doha (VA 1-29)

All Velocity members travelling on Economy Flex fares, and Gold, Platinum and Platinum Plus Velocity members travelling on Economy Choice fares, will be eligible to request to use Velocity Points to upgrade to Business Class on Virgin Australia flights between Australia and Doha (VA1-29), subject to availability.

If your request for an upgrade isn't successful at the time because of availability, you can request to be placed on a waitlist in the event upgrades become available.

Priority for the waitlist will be allocated based first on fare type and then Velocity Status. The highest level of priority will be extended to members that have purchased an Economy Flex fare and then prioritised by Velocity Status. I.e., Platinum Plus members that have purchased a Flex fare will have priority, followed by Platinum, Gold, then Silver and then Red.

The next level of priority will be extended to Platinum Plus, Platinum and Gold members that have purchased an Economy Choice fare, with Platinum Plus members having higher priority than Platinum and Gold members.

Please note, Status is validated both at time of requesting the waitlist and awarding an upgrade. We validate your Status at time of request to ensure you are eligible to waitlist, and then we validate your Status when awarding the upgrade so that we can prioritise your waitlist request based on your Status.

Domestic or International Short Haul flights

Use Velocity Points to Upgrade from an Economy Choice or Flex fare (excluding Economy Lite fares) to Business Class on Domestic (excluding Christmas Island and Cocos (Keeling) Islands) or International Short Haul flights operated by Virgin Australia with a VA flight number.

Check the number of Points required to upgrade.

Upgrade online any time after you have booked your flight, up to four hours prior to flight departure time.

Upgrade via our Membership Contact Centre until two hours prior to the scheduled flight departure time (a fee may apply).

Upgrade at domestic Check-in until 40 minutes prior and at International Check-in until 60 minutes prior to scheduled flight departure time. See one of our friendly ground crew for assistance.

Upgrade at the Virgin Australia domestic Lounge on the same-day of travel up to 40 minutes prior to scheduled flight departure time.

If you have made any special requests for your booking, or if your booking was originally made through a mobile device, at the airport or through the Guest Contact Centre, please contact our Membership Contact Centre at least two hours prior to the scheduled flight departure time to request the upgrade.

Upgrades are subject to Business Class Reward Seat availability and to the Upgrade Cancellation and Amendment Policy.

International Long Haul flights between Australia and Doha (VA1-29)

All Velocity members travelling on an Economy Flex fares, and Gold, Platinum and Platinum Plus Velocity members travelling on Economy Choice fares, will be eligible to request to use Velocity Points to upgrade to Business Class on Virgin Australia flights between Australia and Doha (VA1-29), subject to availability.

If your request for an upgrade isn't successful at the time because of availability, you can request to be placed on a waitlist in the event upgrades become available.

Use Velocity Points to Upgrade from an Economy Choice or Economy Flex fare to Business Class on International Long Haul flights between Australia and Doha (VA1-29).

Please note, that you cannot select specific Business Class seats if you have called the Membership Contact Centre between 48-72 hours prior to the scheduled flight departure time and received an upgrade. Instead, your seat will be assigned at the airport during check-in.
Can’t find a seat on a Virgin Australia flight? Request a waitlist booking for a seat in a cabin if all seats in the desired cabin of a Virgin Australia operated flight, with a VA flight number are fully booked.

Priority will be allocated based on Status, with the highest level of priority extended to Platinum Plus members, followed by Platinum, Gold, Silver and Red.

A Priority waitlist booking doesn’t guarantee that a seat will be made available for purchase.

If you've already made a booking directly with Virgin Australia: If your priority waitlist is successful, the fare payable will be a full Economy or Business Class fare.

If you've already made a booking with a travel agent or another third party: If your priority waitlist is succesful, the fare payable will be a full Economy Flex or Business Class fare.

~Effective 1 October 2025, Gold members will no longer be eligible for the Guaranteed Economy Reward Seat benefit for Benefit Periods commencing on or after this date.

If you are a Gold member and your current Benefit Period commenced before 1 October 2025, and you still hold an active entitlement to a Guarantee Economy Reward Seat benefit, you may redeem this benefit once according to the following:

You may redeem an Economy Reward Seat, for one trip per year to a selected domestic destination within Australia when travelling with Virgin Australia.*

Reward Seat carrier charges can be paid for using Points or a combination of Points and cash

The Guaranteed Economy Reward Seats must be booked at least six months prior to the desired departure date and allow one day either side of the desired departure and return dates. Our Reward Seat Guarantee is available for one itinerary per year and may include up to 3 accompanying family member

Request to Fly Ahead to your destination on an earlier same day, domestic Virgin Australia operated flight. Fly Ahead requests can be made at the airport for you and up to 3 guests on the same booking.

Fly Ahead is available on Virgin Australia domestic Economy Flex and Business fares for flights operated by Virgin Australia. Fly Ahead is not available for Gold members on Economy Choice fares, Economy Lite fares, or for Group bookings.

Fly Ahead is available on Virgin Australia Economy and Business Class Reward Seats, and Business Class Upgrades.

Requests must be made at least 40 minutes before scheduled departure, while the flight is still open for check-in.

Fly Ahead is subject to seat availability and this is controlled by Virgin Australia. While an earlier flight may have seats available for sale, these may not be available for Fly Ahead.

Travelling with carry-on baggage only: Requests can be made at a Virgin Australia check-in kiosk, Priority Check-in counter, in the Virgin Australia Lounge or at the Service Desk (where available).

Travelling with checked baggage: Requests must be made to a Virgin Australia staff member at the Virgin Australia Priority Check-in counter.

You will receive a baggage allowance based on your fare type (excluding Economy Lite fares) and your membership level at the time of travel.

Gold members will receive one piece of additional checked baggage of up to 23kg when travelling in Economy Class or up to 32kg when travelling in Business Class.

Gold members will receive an additional checked baggage allowance of up to 20kg when travelling in Economy Class or Business Class.

Your checked baggage will be delivered with priority to the arrivals carousel at your destination when travelling on domestic or international short-haul flights operated by Virgin Australia with a VA flight number, or when travelling between Australia and Doha on VA1-29.

Virgin Australia Domestic Lounges

When flying on a Virgin Australia operated domestic flight Gold members receive complimentary access pre-departure to enjoy freshly prepared food, barista coffee, free Wi-Fi and a selection of curated wines and craft beers from 12pm.

You can invite one additional guest, plus up to three children aged between 2 to 17 years, into our Virgin Australia Domestic Lounges.
Your invited guests need not be travelling with you, but must enter the lounge and be accompanied by you.
Enjoy lounge access immediately upon arrival at your destination after your domestic Virgin Australia operated flight for up to 60 minutes (subject to space availability).

Choose to pool Points, or Points and Status Credits, earned by family members into one Account.

There is a maximum of six family members, living at the same address, involved in a pool. This may include up to four children under the age of 18 and two adults 18 years or over (including the main pooling beneficiary).

Status Credits earned through Family Pooling (as a beneficiary) will not count towards the minimum number of Status Credits you must earn on eligible Virgin Australia marketed and or operated flights, flown by you, to upgrade or maintain Status. Status Credits transferred to a beneficiary through Family Pooling are not earned by the contributor and do not form part of the contributor's Status Credit balance.

Choose to pause your membership for a period of six months when you are expecting a new addition to the family.

To apply for a Membership Pause for Parental Leave, you may be required to provide documentation of pregnancy, recent or future child birth or adoption of a child in the form of a doctor’s certificate, a birth certificate or an adoption or foster parent registration.

^{^}Virgin Australia flights between Australia and Doha (VA1-29) will be operated by Qatar Airways for Virgin Australia.

1. To be eligible to upgrade into Gold Status, members must have the total required number of Status Credits in their Status Credit balance earned during the previous 365 days, with at least 50% of the total required number of Status Credits to be earned on eligible Virgin Australia marketed and/or Virgin Australia operated flights flown by the member. To be eligible to maintain Gold Status, members must have the total required number of Status Credits in their Status Credit balance earned during their Benefit Period, with at least 50% of the total required number of Status Credits to be earned on eligible Virgin Australia marketed and/or Virgin Australia operated flights flown by the member. Status Credits earned through eligible Partner Airline marketed and operated flights, Family Pooling (as a beneficiary), Flybuys, eligible Velocity Points earning credit cards or with any other partners will not count towards the minimum balance of Status Credits required to be earned on eligible Virgin Australia marketed and/or Virgin Australia operated flights flown by the member. Status Credits transferred to a beneficiary through Family Pooling are not earned by the contributor and do not form part of the contributor’s Status Credit balance. Your Status Credit balance is calculated daily based on the previous 365 days. Your Status Credit balance may fluctuate daily as new Status Credits are earned, and older Status Credits reach the end of their validity. To view your balance, visit My Velocity.

2. Gold members will earn a 75% Points bonus, on top of the base Points earned, when travelling on Virgin Australia marketed and operated Domestic, Trans-Tasman and International Short-haul flights, excluding Economy Lite fares. Gold members will earn a 75% Points bonus on the miles flown, in addition to the base Points earned on Virgin Australia flights bweetn Australia and Doha (operated by Qatar Airways for Virgin Australia), excluding Economy Lite fares.

3. Please ensure you download the Velocity Frequent Flyer App as a valid virtual or physical membership card needs to be presented to attain benefits.

4. For some Choice fares booked on Virgin Australia marketed/Air Canada operated flights, Velocity members will not earn Velocity Points or Status Credits for the portion of the flight that is operated internally within Canada. For more information please visit Earn Points with Air Canada prior to booking your flight.

5. These Velocity Status benefits are only available on ANA operated flights between Australia and Japan with a VA or NH flight number, and ANA operated flight within Japan with a VA flight number.

6. These Velocity Status benefits are only available on Air New Zealand operated flights with a VA flight number, between Australia and New Zealand.

7. To be eligible for Forever Gold, Velocity members must have a total of 12,000 Status Credits in their Forever Gold Status Credit balance calculated from 1 February 2013 onwards, with at least 9,000 Status Credits in their balance earned on eligible Virgin Australia marketed and/or Virgin Australia operated flights flown by the member. Status Credits earned through eligible Partner Airline marketed and operated flights, Family Pooling (as a beneficiary), Flybuys, eligible Velocity Points earning credit cards or any other partners will not count towards the minimum balance requirement of Status Credits which must be earned on eligible Virgin Australia marketed and/or Virgin Australia operated flights, flown by the member. Status Credits transferred to a beneficiary through Family Pooling are not earned by the contributor and do not form part of the contributor’s Status Credit balance. Forever Gold members will be entitled to Gold membership benefits throughout their Validity Period, unless their Status is Platinum or Platinum Plus (in which case they will receive the member benefits for their Platinum or Platinum Plus Status (as applicable) in the relevant Benefit Period). Forever Gold members are not eligible for Membership Pause. Complimentary Partner memberships are only available once for all Gold members as per Velocity membership Terms and Conditions. Velocity may change Gold membership benefits at its discretion. Forever Gold is not transferrable to any other member. Forever Gold members will not downgrade below Gold Status. Forever Gold will terminate when Velocity membership is terminated by the member or Velocity, including when Velocity becomes aware the member has passed away.
