There is a range of different base Reward Seat fare prices (in Points) that apply to a Virgin Australia Domestic Economy Reward Seat redemption within each given ‘one way zone’, based on the availability of & demand for Economy Reward Seats for a particular flight at a given time.

To determine which specific price (in Points) is available for a given flight, check the base fare Point quote provided on the Virgin Australia booking portal. The lower range Points prices indicated above cannot be guaranteed or reserved without making a Points redemption booking and can only be secured on a ‘first come, first served’ basis.

The above indicates the minimum number of Points required for a domestic Reward Seat booking that does not include a ‘domestic break in journey’ (when onward travel on a multi-flight booking is not scheduled to take place within the same calendar day).

When a booking includes multiple domestic flights with a break in the journey & OR a change in cabin class, multiple airlines or an onward Trans-Tasman or Short Haul International flight on Virgin Australia, the number of Points required will be higher¹.

Applicable taxes, fees and carrier charges are also payable in addition to the fare - these are quoted at the time of booking and will vary depending on city pair and start from $16.95².

Reward Seat bookings on Virgin Australia long haul international flights will incur a carrier charge. An overview of the carrier charges applicable are set out in the tables below.³

The number of Points displayed above are the minimum number of Points required to book a Reward Seat on the most direct routes. When a single booking includes: multiple flights with a break in the journey (at least 24 hours between flights); a change in cabin class; multiple airlines on one itinerary; or a VA domestic connection to a VA long haul flight; the number of Points required for Reward Seats will be higher. Please refer to the VA domestic or partner airline table for the respective connecting flight value. For Reward Seat bookings where a Virgin Australia flight between Australia and Doha connects with a Qatar Airways flight as part of the same booking, this will not be considered as a trip break and the minimum number of Points required to book outlined above will apply.

Changes and Cancellations

Changes to each flight sector must be requested at least 24 hours prior to the scheduled departure of that sector, and are subject to a change fee. Most restrictive fare rules apply, visit virginaustralia.com for more information.

Cancellations must be requested at least 24 hours prior to first scheduled departure and refunds are subject to a fee of 4,500 Points or $35 charge per guest per booking. Most restrictive fare rules apply.

International Partner Airline Reward Seats

Any voluntary changes (by you) to International Partner Airline Reward Seats booked before 21 January 2025 now require cancellation and refund (if applicable) of the original ticket and a new International Partner Airline Reward Seat is to be booked according to the points redemption table relevant to the applicable International Partner Airline above.
Children aged 2 years or older, and infants who travel in their own seat, will be charged the same amount as an adult.

Infants (aged 0-2 years) who do not require a seat will not be charged.

Some destinations require a connecting flight, for example when flying from Sydney to New York, your journey might have you fly from Sydney to Los Angeles and then onwards from Los Angeles to New York.

The number of Points required for your Reward Seat will be higher if you take a break in your journey, between your connecting flights.

If there is no break in your journey the number of Points required for your Reward Seat will be based on the total miles between the two cities e.g from Sydney to New York this is 9,950 miles and 59,800 Points for a one way economy class Reward seat with United Airlines.

If you decide to take a break in your journey, the number of Points required is calculated on a per sector basis. From Sydney to Los Angeles this is a 7,488 miles journey one way (44,800 Points for an economy class Reward seat with United Airlines) and from Los Angeles to New York this is a 2,475 miles journey one way (22,300 Points for an economy class Reward seat with United Airlines). This is a total of 67,100 Points.

A break in the journey for a purely Australian domestic itinerary (for example Perth to Cairns via Brisbane) occurs when onward travel does not take place on the same calendar day. For all other itineraries, including those containing a domestic to international connecting flight, a break occurs when a passenger arrives at an intermediate point and is not scheduled to depart within 24 hours of arrival.

A Reward Seat is also calculated on a per sector basis when there is a change in class of travel within the journey or when combining a journey that includes airlines located in different Reward Seat Points tables.
