Upgrade to Silver membership¹

To upgrade to Silver, you must meet the following criteria:

Your Status Credits balance must reach 250 Status Credits
At least 125 of those 250 Status Credits must be earned from eligible Virgin Australia marketed and or operated flights, flown by you
The criteria above must be completed within the last 365 days
We assess your eligibility to upgrade each time Status Credits are added to your account to ensure you are upgraded as soon as possible

Maintain your Silver membership¹

To maintain your Silver membership you must meet the following requirements:

Your Status Credits balance must reach 200 Status Credits
At least 100 of those 200 Status Credits must be earned from eligible Virgin Australia marketed and or operated flights, flown by you.
The criteria above must be achieved within your 12 month Benefit Period.
Following the end of your Benefit Period, we will assess your eligibility to maintain Silver

Your benefits before your travel

From upgrades, seat selection and priority service the benefits of being a Silver Status member start before you even get to the airport.

For Virgin Australia operated domestic and international short-haul flights with a VA flight number:

You may select your seat at the time of booking or at check-in (excluding Economy Lite fares). You can also select your seat after you have made a booking by calling Virgin Australia’s Guest Contact Centre.

Advance seat selection is available for purchase when travelling on Economy Lite fares up until 3 hours before the flight’s scheduled departure.

*Complimentary advance seat selection is only available for Silver members travelling on an Economy Lite fare when checking in within 3 hours of the flight’s scheduled departure time.

For Virgin Australia international long-haul flights between Australia and Doha (VA1-29)^{^}:

When travelling on these flights on an Economy Flex, Business or Business Reward Seat fare, you will be eligible for complimentary advance seat selection for Standard, Preferred or Extra Legroom seats.

When travelling on these flights on an Economy Choice or Economy Reward Seat fare, you will be able to purchase advance seat selection at a discounted rate for your seat selection⁵. Any other guests travelling on your booking will not be eligible for a discount on their advance seat selection unless they are also an eligible Velocity member.

You may purchase advance seat selection (for Economy Choice fares) or select your seat (for Economy Flex or Business fares) by calling Virgin Australia's Guest Contact Centre.

You may purchase advance seat selection (for Economy Reward Seat fares) or select your seat (for Business Reward Seat fares) by calling the Membership Contact Centre.

You may purchase your advance seat selection or select your complimentary seat (as applicable to your fare type) by selecting "Manage Your Booking" on the Virgin Australia website.

Any advance seat selection will be subject to terms and conditions.
Can’t find a seat on a Virgin Australia flight? Request a waitlist booking for a seat in a cabin if all seats in the desired cabin of a Virgin Australia operated flight, with a VA flight number are fully booked.

Priority will be allocated based on Status, with the highest level of priority extended to Platinum Plus members, followed by Platinum, Gold, Silver and Red.

A Priority waitlist booking doesn’t guarantee that a seat will be made available for purchase.

If you've already made a booking directly with Virgin Australia: If your priority waitlist is successful, the fare payable will be a full Economy or Business Class fare.

If you've already made a booking with a travel agent or another third party: If your priority waitlist is succesful, the fare payable will be a full Economy Flex or Business Class fare.
Domestic or International Short Haul flights

Use Velocity Points to Upgrade from an Economy Choice or Economy Flex fare (excludes Economy Lite fares) to Business Class on Domestic flights (excluding Christmas Island and Cocos Island) or International Short Haul flights operated by Virgin Australia with a VA flight number.

Check the number of Points required to upgrade.

Upgrade online any time after you have booked your flight, up to four hours prior to flight departure time.

Upgrade via our Membership Contact Centre until two hours prior to the scheduled flight departure time (a fee may apply).

Upgrade at domestic Check-in until 40 minutes prior and at International Check-in until 60 minutes prior to scheduled flight departure time. See one of our friendly ground crew for assistance.

Upgrade at the Virgin Australia domestic Lounge on the same-day of travel up to 40 minutes prior to scheduled flight departure time.

If you have made any special requests for your booking, or if your booking was originally made through a mobile device, at the airport or through the Guest Contact Centre, please contact our Membership Contact Centre at least two hours prior to the scheduled flight departure time to request the upgrade.

Upgrades are subject to Business Class Reward Seat availability and to the Upgrade Cancellation and Amendment Policy.

International Long Haul flights between Australia and Doha (VA 1-29)

If you are travelling on an Economy Flex fare, you are eligible to request to use Velocity Points to upgrade to Business Class on Virgin Australia flights between Australia and Doha (VA 1-29), subject to availability.

Use Velocity Points to Upgrade from an Economy Flex fare to Business Class on International Long Haul flights between Australia and Doha (VA 1-29).

Check the number of Points required to upgrade.

Upgrade online or via our Membership Contact Centre. You may upgrade online until 72 hours prior to your scheduled flight departure time or via our Membership Contact Centre until 48 hours prior to the scheduled flight departure time (a fee may apply).

Please note, you cannot select specific Business Class seats if you have called the Membership Contact Centre btween 48-72 hours prior to the scheduled flight departure time and received an upgrade. Instead, your seat will be assigned at the airport during check-in.
Receive priority when you register for an UpgradeMe Points waitlist on your upcoming Virgin Australia operated domestic or international short-haul flight with a VA flight number, or Virgin Australia's international long-haul flights operated by Qatar Airways with a VA flight number (VA 1-29). Subject to availability.

Domestic and International Short Haul flights

Priority will be allocated based on Status, with the highest level of priority extended to Platinum Plus members followed by Platinum, Gold, Silver and Red.

International Long Haul flights between Australia and Doha (VA1-29)

Silver members travelling on an Economy Flex fare are eligible to request to use Velocity Points to upgrade to Business Class on Virgin Australia flights between Australia and Doha (VA1-29), subject to availability.

If your request for an upgrade isn't successful at the time because of availability, you can request to be placed on a waitlist in the event upgrades become available.

Priority for the waitlist will be allocated based first on fare type and then Velocity Status, with the highest level of priority extended to members that have purchased an Economy Flex fare and then prioritised by Velocity Status.

Please note, Status is validated at time of requesting the waitlist and awarding an upgrade. We validate your Status at time of request to ensure you are eligible to waitlist, and then we validate your Status when awarding the upgrade so that we can prioritise your waitlist request based on your Status.

Your benefits at the Airport

Fast-track your airport experience with Priority Check-in through the Business Class counter, when travelling on International flights operated by Virgin Australia.
Virgin Australia operated Domestic and International Short-Haul Flights: You will receive an additional checked baggage allowance based on your fare type purchased (not available on Economy Lite fares) and your Status at the time of travel. Visit the Virgin Australia website to check your allowance.

Virgin Australia flights between Australia and Doha^{^}: At this stage, Silver members will not receive any additional checked baggage allowances on these flights. The checked baggage allowance included in your fare can be found here

Receive two Single Entry Lounge passes per year (pre-loaded onto your My Velocity Card) for entry into a Virgin Australia Domestic Lounge, valid for 12 months. Log in to My Velocity to view your available passes.

Lounge passes are non-transferable and must be used by either the member, or the member and an accompanying guest.

Lounge passes are valid for one single entry into the lounge per person, aged 2 years and above. Lounge passes do not include additional complimentary guests or children.

If you hold a Virgin Australia lounge membership, they can use both of your lounge passes for accompanying guests. You must always accomapny your guests and you must be travelling on the same day.

Family Pooling (Points and Status Credits)

There may be a maximum of six family members, living at the same address, involved in a pool. This may include up to four children under the age of 18 and two adults 18 years or over (including the main pooling beneficiary).

Membership pause for parental leave

Choose to pause your membership for a period of six months when you are expecting a new addition to your family.

To apply for a Membership Pause for Parental Leave, you may be required to provide documentation of pregnancy, recent or future child birth or adoption of a child in the form of a doctor’s certificate, a birth certificate or an adoption or foster parent registration.

^{^}Virgin Australia flights between Australia and Doha (VA1-29) will be operated by Qatar Airways for Virgin Australia.

1. To be eligible to upgrade into Silver Status, members must have the total required number of Status Credits in their Status Credit balance earned during the previous 365 days, with at least 50% of the total required number of Status Credits to be earned on eligible Virgin Australia marketed and/or Virgin Australia operated flights flown by the member. To be eligible to maintain Silver Status, members must have the total required number of Status Credits in their Status Credit balance earned during their Benefit Period, with at least 50% of the total number of required Status Credits to be earned on eligible Virgin Australia marketed and/or Virgin Australia operated flights flown by the member. Status Credits earned through eligible Partner Airline marketed and operated flights, Family Pooling (as a beneficiary), Flybuys, eligible Velocity Points earning credit cards or with any other partners will not count towards the minimum balance of Status Credits required to be earned on eligible Virgin Australia marketed and/or Virgin Australia operated flights flown by the member. Status Credits transferred to a beneficiary through Family Pooling are not earned by the contributor and do not form part of the contributor’s Status Credit balance. Your Status Credit balance is calculated daily based on the previous 365 days. Your Status Credit balance may fluctuate daily as new Status Credits are earned, and older Status Credits reach the end of their validity. To view your balance, visit My Velocity. Your Status is assessed according to the Velocity membership terms and conditions.

2. Silver members will earn a 50% Points bonus, on top of the base Points earned, when travelling on Virgin Australia marketed and operated Domestic and International Short-Haul flights, excluding when travelling on Economy Lite fares. Silver members will earn a 50% Points bonus on the miles flown, in addition to the base Points earned, when travelling on Virgin Australia flights between Australia and Doha (operated by Qatar Airways on behalf of Virgin Australia), excluding Economy Lite fares.

3. Please ensure that you download the Velocity Frequent Flyer App as a valid virtual or physical membership card needs to be presented to attain benefits.

4. For some Choice fares booked on Virgin Australia marketed/Air Canada operated flights, Velocity members will not earn Velocity Points or Status Credits for the portion of the flight that is operated internally within Canada. For more information please visit Earn Points with Air Canada prior to booking your flight.

5. Discounts will only be available for the Silver Velocity member on a booking (not including other passengers). Your Velocity membership number must be entered into your booking (or quoted to Contact Centre staff) prior to purchasing advance seat selection. The amount payable for advance seat selection will be quoted to you at the time of purchase and will be inclusive of any discounts. Any discount available will be based on your Velocity membership level at the time you purchase advance seat selection.

6. Status Credits earned through Family Pooling (as a beneficiary) will not count towards the minimum number of Status Credits you must earn on eligible Virgin Australia marketed and/or operated flights, flown by you, to upgrade or maintain Status. Status Credits transferred to a beneficiary through Family Pooling are not earned by the contributor and do not form part of the contributor’s Status Credit balance.
