Silver Membership

Upgrade to Silver membership

We assess memberships on a daily basis to ensure you are upgraded as soon as possible. 

As soon as your Status Credit balance reaches 250 and you have flown two Eligible Sectors you will be automatically upgraded to Silver membership.

Maintain your Silver membership

To maintain your Silver membership you will need to earn 200 Status Credits and fly two Eligible Sectors within your 12 month benefit period.

TRAVEL BENEFITS: Before You Travel
Priority Phone Service
UpgradeMe Points - Domestic, Trans Tasman and International Short Haul Flights
  • Use Velocity Points to upgrade from a Getaway fare (fare classes M, S, T), Elevate fare (Q, V, N, E) or a Freedom fare (fare classes Y, B, H, K, L) to a Business Class seat on domestic flights marketed and operated by Virgin Australia.
  • Use Velocity Points to upgrade from a Go Plus fare (fare classes T, Q, V, N, E), Getaway fare (T, Q, V, N, E) or Freedom fare (fare classes Y, B, H, K, L) to a Business Class seat on Trans Tasman and International Short Haul flights marketed and operated by Virgin Australia and Virgin Samoa.
  • Upgrade online any time after you have booked your flight, up to two hours prior to scheduled departure time.
  • If you have made any special requests for your booking or if your booking was originally made through a mobile device, at the airport or through the Guest Contact Centre, please contact our Membership Contact Centre at least two hours prior to the scheduled flight departure time to request the upgrade.
  • Members with Virgin Australia Lounge membership or valid Single Entry passes can also request an upgrade to a Business Class seat on domestic flights at the Virgin Australia Lounge from two hours prior to scheduled flight departure time, up to 40 minutes prior to scheduled flight departure time.
  • Upgrades are subject to Premium Economy and Business Class Reward Seat availability and to the Upgrade Cancellation and Amendment Policy.

Seating Preferences
  • Select and store your seating preference in your Velocity Account.

Our best efforts will be taken to allocate your seat preference to your Virgin Australia booking wherever possible.

Advance Seat Selection
  • Select your seat at the time of booking or at check in. You can also select your seat after you have made a booking by calling the Virgin Australia Guest Contact Centre.
Preferential Seating
  • Select your preferred seat from reserved zones – as determined by your Velocity membership level and the fare class booked – on flights marketed and operated by Virgin Australia.
  • Add your Velocity membership number to your booking to ensure the appropriate seats, available for your level of membership, are displayed correctly.
Priority Waitlist
  • Receive priority when waitlisted for upcoming Virgin Australia or Virgin Samoa marketed and operated flights. Subject to availability, priority will be allocated based on membership level.
International Priority Check-in
  • Enjoy access to the Priority Check-in counter when travelling internationally with Virgin Australia.
Virgin Australia Lounge
  • Receive two Single Entry passes (pre-loaded onto your membership card) for the Virgin Australia lounge, valid for 12 months. (Effective for passes issued from 17 February 2014)
  • Access an exclusive discounted annual membership price. Pay only $300 (normally $420) plus the join fee is waived, a saving of $330.

Complimentary Baggage Allowance
  • For domestic and international short haul flights  you will receive a baggage allowance  based on your fare type and your membership level at the time of travel.  Find out more about baggage allowances.
  • When travelling to the USA with Virgin Australia you will receive one extra piece of checked baggage, up to 23 kg in Economy and up to 32 kg in Premium Economy and Business Class.

Virgin America^

^ Velocity members will no longer receive the above benefits when flying on Virgin America for travel after 30 September 2017.  Virgin America has announced it will be dissolving its loyalty program, Elevate, by 31 December 2017 and Velocity Frequent Flyer members will not be able to earn points on Virgin America flights from 30 September.

Family Pooling (Points and Status Credits)
  • Choose to pool Points, or Points and Status Credits, earned by family members into one Account.
  • There may be a maximum of six family members, living at the same address, involved in a pool. This may include up to four children under the age of 18 and two adults 18 years or over (including the main pooling beneficiary).
  • Log in to your Velocity Account to set up Family Pooling.

Membership Pause for Parental Leave
  • Choose to pause your membership for a period of six months when expecting a new addition to your family.
  • To apply for a Membership Pause for Parental Leave, you may be required to provide documentation of pregnancy, recent or future child birth or adoption of a child in the form of a doctor’s certificate, a birth certificate or an adoption or foster parent registration.
