Seating Preferences
  • Select and store your seating preference in your Velocity Account.

We will apply your preference wherever possible when flying with Virgin Australia. Best efforts will be taken to allocate your seat preference to your booking.

Advance Seat Selection
  • You can now select your seat at the time of booking free of charge, or at the time of check-in. Following a booking, you can make a seat selection by calling the Guest Contact Centre.

Preferential Seating
  • On flights marketed and operated by Virgin Australia, you can select your preferred seat from reserved zones, which are determined by your Velocity membership level and the fare class booked.
  • When making a flight booking with Virgin Australia, including any bookings using Points, you will need to login to your Velocity Account via the panel on the right hand side of the page when selecting your preferred flights. This will ensure the appropriate seats available for your level of membership are displayed correctly.

UpgradeMe Points - Domestic and International Short Haul flights
  • Use Velocity Points to upgrade from a Saver fare (fare classes T, Q, V, N or E) or a Flexi fare (fare classes Y, B, H, K, L) to a Business Class seat on domestic flights marketed and operated by Virgin Australia.
  • Use Velocity Points to upgrade from a Flexi fare (fare classes Y, B, H, K, L) to a Premium Economy or Business Class seat on international short haul flights marketed and operated by Virgin Australia and Virgin Samoa.
  • Request an upgrade any time after you have booked your flight, up to 3 hours prior to flight departure by contacting the Membership Contact Centre.
  • Members with Virgin Australia lounge access can also request an upgrade from a Flexi fare (fare classes Y, B, H, K, L) to a Business Class seat on domestic flights at the Virgin Australia lounge from three hours before the flight, up to 40 minutes prior to scheduled departure.
  • When departing Hobart or Darwin on a Flexi fare, Platinum and Gold members can request for an upgrade at Priority Check-in from 90 minutes before the flight, up to 40 minutes prior to flight departure.
  • Upgrades are subject to Premium Economy and Business Class Reward Seat availability and to the Upgrade Cancellation and Amendment Policy. To view the number of Points required to upgrade, view Flight Upgrades.

UpgradeMe Points - International Long Haul flights to Los Angeles and Abu Dhabi

  • Use Velocity Points to upgrade from a Flexi fare (fare classes Y, B, H, K, L) to a Premium Economy or Business Class seat or a Premium Economy fare (fare classes W, R, O) to a Business Class seat on flights marketed and operated by Virgin Australia.
  • Request an upgrade any time after you have booked your flight, up to 24 hours prior to scheduled departure by contacting the Membership Contact Centre.

  • Platinum members are entitled to four complimentary upgrade sectors per year when flying domestically on Virgin Australia and when booked on a Flexi fare (fare classes Y, B H, K, L). 
  • Request an upgrade any time after you have booked your flight, up to 3 hours prior to scheduled departure by contacting the Membership Contact Centre.
  • You can also request an upgrade on domestic flights at the Virgin Australia lounge from three hours before the flight, up to 40 minutes prior to scheduled departure.

Priority Screening at major domestic airports

Fly Ahead
  • When arriving at the Virgin Australia lounge, Gold and Platinum members and any other guests on the same booking may request to Fly Ahead to their destination on an earlier flight. 
  • Fly Ahead flight selection must be made at least 30 minutes before departure while the flight is still open for check-in.
  • Available to guests travelling with hand luggage only and subject to availability of seats in the same fare class or lower fare class as the originally purchased ticket.

FAMILY BENEFITS
Family Pooling (Points and Status Credits)
  • Velocity members may choose to pool Points or Points and Status Credits of family members into one Account.
  • There may be a maximum of 6 family members living at the same address involved in a pool including up to four children under the age of 18 and two adults 18 years or over, including the member being pooled to.
  • To ensure all Points and Status Credits are pooled to the main beneficiary, the pooling relationship/s must be set up prior to booking applicable flights.

Membership pause for Parental Leave
  • Members can pause their membership for a period of 6 months when they are expecting an addition to the family and their travelling is likely to be reduced.
  • To apply for a membership pause, members may be required to provide documentation of pregnancy, recent or future child birth or adoption of a child in the form of a doctor’s certificate, a birth certificate or an adoption or foster parent registration.

Economy Reward Seats Guarantee for an annual family trip
  • Gold members are guaranteed four return economy Reward Seats to any destination around Australia when flying with Virgin Australia.
  • Platinum members are guaranteed four return economy Reward Seats to any domestic or international destination, originating from their home port in either Australia or New Zealand, when flying with Virgin Australia or our international airline redemption partners.
  • Available for one flight booking per year, these Reward Seats must be booked 6 months prior to your desired departure date by calling the Membership Contact Centre.
  • Reward Seats can be redeemed using Points or Points plus Pay (minimum Points redemption applies).

Companion Gold membership and Platinum membership
  • Platinum members who earn an additional 500 Status Credits over and above the required number of Status Credits to maintain Platinum within their member benefit period, can gift Gold membership to a companion of their choice.
  • Gold Companion members will automatically be upgraded to Platinum membership if the Platinum member earns an additional 1,000 Status Credits over and above the required number of Status Credits to maintain Platinum within their member benefit period.
